Specialist assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation for climbers
Climbing places unique demands on the body. High loads through the fingers, repetitive pulling, dynamic movement and complex body positions mean injuries are often specific, technical and misunderstood.
At Rise Physiotherapy, climbing is not a niche add-on, it is one of our core clinical specialisms. Our team includes climbers who understand the sport from the inside out, allowing us to assess injuries accurately, manage load intelligently and guide climbers back to performance with confidence.
Our climbing assessments are structured, sport-specific and performance-informed, giving you clarity on your injury and a clear route back to climbing.
We treat climbers across all disciplines bouldering, sport, trad and competition climbing from recreational climbers to those operating at elite and international level.
Your appointment includes:
This ensures your diagnosis reflects the real demands of climbing – not generic advice.
Precision where it matters
Where appropriate, we use diagnostic ultrasound to assess pulley integrity, tendon pathology and joint irritation. This provides real-time clarity and helps guide management decisions with confidence.
Objective data for safe return
We assess grip-specific and finger-specific strength, load tolerance and side-to-side differences. This allows us to structure a graded return-to-climbing plan based on measurable readiness, not guesswork.
Clear diagnosis. Clear plan. Confident return to climbing.

I received a comprehensive assessment and plan within a day. Highly recommend.Posted on Google Maria BanicaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've seen a few of Rise's physios (Matt, Anthony, Tyler) because I'm aging and climbing a lot. They are fantastic and they've returned me to function really quickly. They're not just very knowledgeable (climbing and non-climbing injuries alike) but they tailor the exercise homework really well to what is achievable with my schedule and time available. Very highly recommended.Posted on Google Jack EatockTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. George @ Rise was recommended to me through multiple friends who'd all been treated previously and couldn't sing his praises enough. I went to see him once with wrist pain that worsened from climbing, surfing and yoga which got so bad that I couldn't even hold a high plank position. George found the suspected problem straight away and gave me a plan of exercises and guidance to follow which has completely got rid of the pain. I'm glad I can now go back to doing basic yoga without pain and discomfort. Thank you George!Posted on Google Sharon RussTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was really impressed with Tyler’s knowledge and attitude. Two NHS consultants had looked at my knee X-ray after a bad twist and said it was mild degenerative arthritis, and I had to live with it. I could barely weight bear and walking with the pain was not helpful. Tyler diagnosed an issue with the meniscus and gave me easy exercises to strengthen surrounding muscles. He was reassuring and truthful and made a big effort to tailor movements to suit my lazy lifestyle. He was recommended to me and I can certainly recommend him.Posted on Google Isobel JonesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Went to see Matt with a lot of pain and a severely trapped nerve - and only 8 weeks to go before the World Pilot Gig Championships. He was brilliant from day one — professional, friendly, and really understood the importance of getting me back training and in the boat as quickly as possible. Instead of just telling me to rest, he adapted exercises so I could keep strength training and avoid losing too much time and fitness. Thanks to his help, I made it to the start line and our crew finished 17th in the world. Huge thanks to Matt at Rise for getting me there — would thoroughly recommend him to anyone needing a knowledgeable, supportive, and results-focused physio
