FAQs

Clear Answers. No Jargon. Expert Guidance.

We understand that starting physiotherapy often comes with questions. Below are answers to some of the most common things people ask before booking an appointment at Rise Physiotherapy. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, our team is always happy to help.

No. You do not need a GP or consultant referral to book an appointment with one of our physiotherapists.

We are first-contact clinicians, meaning you can come directly to us for assessment, diagnosis and treatment. If further imaging, injections or specialist referral is required, we will guide you through the process.

Your initial appointment is a comprehensive assessment, not just a quick check-in.

This includes:

  • A detailed discussion of your symptoms, history and goals
  • A thorough physical examination
  • Clear explanation of your diagnosis
  • An outline of treatment options and next steps

You’ll leave with a clear understanding of what’s going on and how we can help.

All of our standard appointments are 40 minutes, allowing time for proper assessment, explanation and treatment. We do have extended 55 minute appointments for more complex scenarios or conditions, or where more in-depth assessment is required.

There is no fixed number of sessions.

Some people need only a few appointments for guidance and reassurance, while others benefit from regular, structured rehabilitation over a longer period. We work collaboratively with you, reviewing progress regularly and adapting the plan as needed, meaning there are no unnecessary appointments.

No.

While we work extensively with athletes and active people, and we have a passion for climbing and adventure sports, we treat everyone, including:

  • Everyday active individuals
  • Office workers and physically demanding occupations
  • Older adults managing joint pain or arthritis
  • People recovering from surgery or managing long-term conditions

Our approach is always tailored to your lifestyle and goals.

Very rarely.

Our philosophy is to enable movement, not remove it. Where possible, we adapt training and activity rather than stopping it altogether. If temporary modification is needed, we’ll explain why and help you return safely and confidently.

Yes.

Many of our physiotherapists incorporate hands-on techniques, including sports massage, joint mobilisation and soft tissue work, where appropriate. We also offer dedicated massage therapy sessions with our specialist massage therapists.

Absolutely.

You don’t need a diagnosis to book an appointment. Many people come to us unsure what’s causing their pain or symptoms. Our role is to assess, diagnose and guide you, and refer on if something sits outside physiotherapy care.

Yes.

We provide pre- and post-operative physiotherapy for a wide range of procedures, including joint replacements, ligament reconstructions and tendon repairs. We work closely with surgical guidelines while tailoring rehabilitation to your individual progress and goals.

We offer Point Of Care Ultrasound Scans, and can advise on and arrange access to diagnostic imaging such as X-ray or MRI when appropriate. We also offer ultrasound-guided joint injections as part of an integrated rehabilitation pathway.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows movement and access to the area being assessed (e.g. shorts for knee issues, vest or t-shirt for shoulder problems). Changing facilities are available if needed.

We work with many major private health insurers. However, we do not directly bill your insurer. We provide detailed receipts of service for you to claim back the cost. If you plan to use insurance, we recommend checking your policy details, as individual policies vary.

We understand that plans change. We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling to avoid charges.
